MFP = More F'ing Problems.

MFP, currently rallying support to form a government, recently released its platform. Notably, recriminalization of cannabis is on the agenda, primarily as a procedural shift to allow Thai police, instead of the Ministry of Public Health, to manage enforcement. MFP assures legal cannabis business operators that they need not worry about this proposed change.

However, internal divisions within the MFP coalition are becoming apparent. Pheu Thai, a member party, is vying for the Speaker role in the prospective government. However, MFP plans to appoint from within its own ranks, sparking another round of meetings with Pheu Thai slated for next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the pro-cannabis community is raising its voice. Criticisms towards MFP's prioritization of legalizing small craft brews over cannabis are surfacing. MFP is also facing scrutiny over its inconsistent stance on cannabis, with questions arising about their support for recreational use in early 2022 and their subsequent shift towards a more anti-cannabis position.

As these political developments unfold, Thailand's tourism industry enters its slow season. Tourism-dependent businesses, including cannabis dispensaries and growers, are expected to face challenges due to reduced tourist inflow. This situation, although challenging for some, may foster healthy competition as inefficient businesses are weeded out, paving the way for stronger entities to share the market space.

Speaking with dispensary owners, it is reported that growers are attempting to sell their surplus inventory to already overstocked shops. Market dynamics indicate a steady drop in prices, which might even accelerate in the upcoming summer months. These shifts suggest an intriguing period ahead for the cannabis industry in Thailand.
